SQL 2016 CTP 2.0 Install Fun   Leave a comment

This is going to be a very short post with couple of screenshots .  Being a SQL Server admirer it is natural that i decided to check out latest features in SQL 2016 CTP(Community Technology Preview) 2 over my local machine.
Interestingly, i hit with the below error during installation –
SQL16_Oracle_Error
Alarming enough for a Microsoft guy to see necessity of -“Oracle JRE 7 Update 51 (64-bit) or higher is installed” for SQL Server installation 🙂 .
I was curious on what SQL Server 2016 Feature would need Oracle JRE.. It Turns out a new Featue under Database Engine – “POLYBASE” would need Java Runtime Environment. If PolyBase is not selected “Feature Rules” would look like below –

FeatureRules_WithoutPolybase
I did not hit any other Weirdness apart from the above during SQL Server 2016 CTP 2.0 Installation.
To overcome above error i downloaded and installed JRE from -> http://www.neowin.net/news/java-runtime-environment-7-update-51 .
SQL Install utility points to a different url -http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=526030 which has latest version of JRE.
Before i end , i also did observe that we cannot install more than one instance of polybase over one machine as per System Configuration Check Report.
Will keep this blog updated with new Features as i explore them.
